Key Office Design Trends

Category Editorial

Some of the key office design trends that have emerged since Covid-19 are:
1. 'Resimercial' Approach: A Sense of 'Home' at Work
Since many individuals are still working from home, the idea is to draw more employees back to the office by creating a more 'homely' work environment with relaxed office layouts and design. This is being achieved using things such as artwork, comfortable couches and chairs, greenery, and soft lighting features.
2. Flexible, Pod-Area Layouts
Although a trend before the pandemic, it is now seen as more important than ever to incorporate small, private enclaves or "pods" into open office, flexible workspaces so that employees can seek privacy as and when needed.
3. Safe and Protected Workspace
The utilisation of clear screen dividers in board rooms and between open workspaces has become a trend throughout the pandemic and the slow return to office life. However, this has gone even further, and employers are now limiting the number of touchpoints in an office as well as incorporating sanitisation stations. Another approach that designers are taking is to use materials that are hard, durable, and easy to disinfect and sanitise.
4. Lighter Colours
As part of the drive to make offices feel more homely, designers are using lighter and more neutral colours incorporated with light woods and accents of 'colour pops' on walls and flooring.
5. More Natural Lighting
Incorporating more natural sunlight into office spaces is of huge importance. Offices with an absence of natural light are turning to artificial lighting that mimics natural light.
Of course nothing compares to a window that can also be opened, allowing in fresh air as well as natural light.
